A lot of people enjoy listening to traditional Christmas music during the holiday but if you’re a metalhead, you’re probably not very interested in carols and such. Metalheads tend to have very particular tastes when it comes to music and that doesn’t just go away around Christmas. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t still get into the spirit of the holidays anyway by continuing to listen to metal, but with a little Christmas spice added for good measure. Although heavy metal isn’t known for being particularly festive, there are some great metal Christmas songs out there that you’re probably going to enjoy during the holiday season.

Part 1: Top 10 Best Metal Christmas Songs

Type O Negative – Red Water (Christmas Mourning)

Possibly one of the gloomiest gothic metal Christmas songs ever composed, which is really saying something. On the other hand, this one comes courtesy of Type O Negative, which are known for their depressing yet hauntingly beautiful melodies.

AC/DC – Mistress for Christmas

This song is perfect for when you’ve been lonely all year but you’re finally ready to change all that during Christmas. Kids are happy to receive toys from Santa but if you’re an adult, there’s nothing better than a bit of exciting company to warm you up during Christmas.

Twister Sister – Heavy Metal Christmas

Heavy metal Christmas songs are not as uncommon as some people might imagine. In fact, a few well-known bands, including Twisted Sister, have entire albums entirely dedicated to the holidays. This particular song is a sort of parody to 12 Days of Christmas.

Manowar – Silent Night

A surprisingly slow ballad by Manowar that doesn’t suddenly evolve into epic battle music, unlike most of their other songs. No, this is quite a relaxing song with only a pinch of electric guitar and screaming so you might even be able to enjoy it with your whole family. As an added bonus, this metal version of Silent Night is sung entirely in German, which makes it even more interesting.

Halford – We Three Kings

An incredible heavy metal Christmas song by Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford aka the Metal God himself. We Three Kings is fast, bold, and packs more energy than a full mug of black coffee. In other words, it’s just perfect for waking you up on Christmas morning regardless of how much eggnog you drank during the previous night.

Korn – Kidnap the Sandy Claws

Leaving to Korn to twist the holiday spirit and turn it into a song about kidnapping and torturing Santa Claus. It’s a bit unorthodox and perhaps more descriptive that it should have been but we expect nothing less from Jonathan Davis and co.

Ronnie James Dio and Tony Iommi – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Ronnie James Dio’s legendary epic voice is a perfect fit for a metal Christmas song, particularly one that’s about divine forces vanquishing the powers of evil. What more can you ask for?

Amon Amarth – Viking Christmas

The Swedes from Amon Amarth know all too well that Christmas has pagan origins and they want everyone else to know it too. Though it’s unlikely people will go back to the old days, this song does a great job at painting a picture of how the Vikings might have celebrated the holidays and it’s not very pretty. It’s probably for the best to leave the old ways in the past.

King Diamond – No Presents for Christmas

Most metal Christmas songs start off strong and maintain their rhythm all the way through. Not this one, though. King Diamond’s No Presents for Christmas starts off with a deceptively innocent intro before kicking things into overdrive and unleashing absolute hell.

August Burns Red – Carol of the Bells

To be honest, the original Carol of the Bells already has somewhat of an orchestral gothic metal feel to it so turning it into a full-fledged metalcore song seems like it was bound to happen sooner or later.
