Summary: Do you want to find some scary songs to fit the atmosphere of Halloween? Here we have selected top 10 best scary Halloween songs for your choice.
It’s almost that time of the year again. You know, the time when we dust off our monster costumes and embrace everything that scares us throughout the rest of the year. We are of course talking about good old Halloween. We’re still a couple of weeks away from the highly-anticipated holiday but it’s never too early to prepare for it. This year, we decided the best way to prepare is to take a look (or listen) at some of the scariest songs out there that fit the atmosphere of Halloween. With that in mind, here are our top 10 most scary Halloween songs of all time.
Part 1: Top 10 Scary Halloween Songs
Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells
We’re kicking things off with one of the most recognizable scary Halloween song ever composed. You’re probably very familiar with this song even if you might not be familiar with the name. Tubular Bells is the main theme of the classic 1973 horror movie The Exorcist.
Akira Yamaoka – Promise (Reprise)
Pretty much any song by Akira Yamaoka would make for a very scary Halloween song, however, Promise (Reprise) is even more haunting than most. This is one of the most popular songs from Silent Hill 2’s soundtrack so you probably already know it if you’re familiar with the series.
John Murphy – In the House, In a Heartbeat
Hands down one of the most iconic horror movie themes ever composed. This track was popularized by the zombie movie 28 Days Later but has since appeared on the soundtrack of numerous other films and video games.
Sleep Dealer – The Way Home
This song manages to be depressing and slightly upbeat at the same time, much like many other Sleep Dealer tracks. The Way Home works great as an atmospheric scary Halloween song because it’s the time of music that forces you to contemplate about your very existence and as we all know, taking a deep look inside ourselves can often be terrifying.
Sidewalks and Skeletons – Sleep Paralysis
Fair warning, you’re treading on very dangerous grounds with this one. If you don’t have the stomach for eerie and deeply disturbing music maybe skip Sleep Paralysis. But if that’s your cup of tea, this is probably the most haunting and creepy Halloween song you’ll ever hear.
Rezso Seress – Gloomy Sunday
This particular song dates all the way back to 1932 and gave birth to a myth that continues to float around to this day. The myth says that this song caused a high number of suicides back in the 30s and even cause the death of the composer himself. It’s hard to say if that actually happened but that story itself makes this a very scary Halloween song.
Arkadiusz Reikowski – Layers of Fear Main Theme
Horror video games often live or die (pun intended) by their soundtrack. Layers of Fear is one of the games that continue to live in the minds of everyone who played it thanks to this very beautiful and very creepy song.
Michael Jackson – Thriller
It wouldn’t be fair to say that Michael Jackson’s Thriller is an actual scary Halloween song because it’s more likely to make you dance than make you hide under the covers. However, Thriller is an absolute classic and a must at any Halloween party.
Mark Snow - X-Files Theme Song
It’s dark, it’s mysterious, it’s likely to cause you nightmares about aliens coming to abduct and experiment on you. It’s, of course, the infamous X-Files theme song.
Rob Zombie – Dragula
I probably don’t even have to explain why this is a scary Halloween song. You’ve got Rob Zombie dressed as an actual zombie and singing about hellhounds and witches. Need I say more?
