What is Cinavia?

Cinavia is a protection for movies in theaters and on DVD & Blu-ray discs. It consists of a multi-level watermark that is embedded in the audio track and, while being theoretically transparent (not-audible) for the listener, it is supposed to resist various transformations of the audio stream like re-compression, analog playback & record, re-sampling, limited pitch shift, etc. The base levels are analog, but on the top level there's the watermark payload that contains some restrictions regarding the playback environment. The protection has two elements (one cannot work without the other):

  • The watermark embedded in audio-video content.
  • Cinavia enabled player that will refuse to play the content if it does not match the restrictions.
DVDFab Cinavia Removal Solution
DVDFab CinaviaRemoval HD is the world first high quality solution for removing the Cinavia watermark from audio tracks of a disc, thus removing the protection altogether. It works by repairing the audio track, taking it back to original Master in terms of sound quality. The entire process is automatically done and the audio quality is lossless in the Blu-ray Copy module, and next only to the original in the Blu-ray Ripper and to DVD Converter modules. For both, there are no watermark traces left in, meaning that they are completely and permanently gone.
Produce Lossless PCM Audio Track
In Blu-ray Copy option, the audio tracks affected by the Cinavia watermark, including DTS HD Master Audio, will be copied as the lossless PCM (Pulse-code modulation) audio. Although being not identical to the original in terms of audio format, it is 100% restore to the original audio track in terms of sound quality.
Convert to High Quality Audio Track
In the Blu-ray Ripper and Blu-ray to DVD Converter options, the selected audio track with Cinavia watermark, also including DTS HD Master Audio, will be converted to various audio formats. Although the output is not lossless, the quality of the internal processing is still lossless and the output quality then only depends on other options selected, such as bitrate, number of channels, etc.
Complete and Permanent Cinavia Removal
DVDFab Cinavia removal solution is able to remove the embedded watermark completely and permanently. This is to say, on the affected playback device, even a firmware update with a new & better detector will not be able to find the watermark in the backup disc or converted video files, simply because there's nothing left to be found. The watermark is completely gone once and for all.
Seamless and Automatic Operation
To remove the Cinavia watermark completely and permanently, all the users are asked to do is choose the backup option, whether the Copy, Ripper or the Converter module, select the Cinavia affected audio track, and get the task started. DVDFab will then do all the rest of the entire process, seamlessly and automatically.
Compatible with all the Cinavia Affected Devices
According to Blu-ray protection specifications, Cinavia technology became mandatory for all Blu-ray disc players as of February 1, 2012, which probably means that any home Blu-ray playback device shipped since then comes with a Cinavia detector. But don’t worry, DVDFab CinaviaRemoval HD produces non-Cinavia backup that works on all the affected playback devices.
Use together with Three Blu-ray Related Options
Special Note: Despite being sold as a standalone option, CinaviaRemoval HD does not work all alone. It is incorporated into Blu-ray Copy (main movie copy mode for the time being), Blu-ray Ripper and Blu-ray to DVD Converter. In other words, to use this option, at least one the three products is required to be within validity.
Tutorial and Details on CinaviaRemoval HD Solution

Cinavia removal solution is available to both Blu-ray Copy and Blu-ray Ripper. For Blu-ray Copy users, please refer to Part 1, for Blu-ray Ripper users, please refer to Part 2.

Part 1: Remove Cinavia with Blu-ray Copy

Step 1 – Launch DVDFab 9, navigate to Blu-ray Copy Main Movie mode, and insert the target disc into the optical drive for DVDFab to access. If the disc is protected by Cinavia, a window with the message (see below) shall show up;

Step 2 – At the audio selection box, select the Cinavia affected audio track and at the same time click on the Cinavia logo until there is a red slash across it, choose the output size as BD-50 or BD-25, and then choose an output path to start the backup process;

Step 3 – Once the backup is started, all you can do now is to wait. The Cinavia watermark will be completely and permanently removed from the audio track, leaving you a lossless PCM audio track which equalizes the original on the genuine disc.

Part 2: Remove Cinavia with Blu-ray Ripper

Step 1 – Launch DVDFab 9, navigat to Blu-ray Ripper, and insert the target disc into the optical drive for DVDFab to access. If the disc is protected by Cinavia, a window with the message (see below) shall show up;

Step 2 – Choose a conversion profile from the built-in profile library, select the Cinavia affected audio track and at the same time click on the Cinavia logo until there is a red slash across it, and then choose an output path to start the backup process;

Step 3 – Once the conversion is started, all you are left to do now is to wait. The Cinavia watermark will be completely and permanently removed from the audio track.

Keep in mind:

1. Considering the huge data of lossless PCM audio, users can only choose BD-50 or BD-25 at the output size selection box.

2. While selecting the Cinavia affected audio track, you need to both check the selection box, and click on the Cinavia logo before the selection box until you see a red slash shows up across the logo.

3. If there is more than one audio track embedded with Cinavia watermark, you can only select one to remove at a time, at least for the time being.

4. To remove Cinavia, the chapter selection and video trimming features are not available.

5. While selecting the Cinavia affected audio tracks, if you see a black Cinavia logo, it means that audio track is not supported yet.

6. Rips made with audio content recorded in theaters are not supported and it's likely they'll never be.

7. While choosing conversion profiles with Blu-ray Ripper, profiles of audiocopy and passthrough are not supported to remove Cinavia for the time being.
