How to use DVDFab DVD Ripper - rip DVDs to iPad, iPhone, Samsung, HUAWEI, Xbox One, PS4 and more

Step 1: Load the DVD source

DVDFab DVD Ripper belongs to Ripper module, so please click the Ripper module.

Then please load the DVD source. DVDFab supports DVD discs, DVD ISO files and DVD folders. If the source is a DVD folder or ISO file, you can click the “+” button on the main interface or the “+ Add” icon next to the profile library to load it. If the source is a DVD disc, DVDFab will analyze the DVD disc automatically after you insert it to your optical drive.

Step 2: Choose the device

After the source is loaded in, you can go to the profile library at the top left corner to choose the device you want. There are many different device presets available, including Apple devices like iPad Pro, iPhone 6/7/8/10, Apple TV, etc., Samsung smartphones like Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Tab S4, etc., HUAWEI phones like Mate 20, Mate X, P20, Nova 4, etc., game consoles like Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, etc. Here we choose to rip the DVD to iPad.

DVDFab DVD Ripper can output video formats like AVI, FLV, MKV, M2TS, TS, VOB, WMV and audio formats such as MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, and more. You can see these formats by clicking Format tab.

Step 3: Customize the video

When the DVD source is loaded in, the main movie title will be selected by default. So if you also want to rip other titles, please remember click the “Choose Other Titles” to choose all the titles you need. On the left of the option, you can choose the video quality you want.

Some other contents of the DVD movie are also selectable or editable. You can change the title name, select the chapters you want to keep, and check the audio tracks and subtitles you need. At the Subtitle part, you even can add external subtitles. The adding external subtitles feature is also available in Video Edit (Editor) panel, so we will talk it later in the “Editing tools” part of this article. The wrench icon that is before the Editor icon represents Advanced Settings. Since there are many options in Advanced Settings panel, we will introduce it in the next part “Advanced Settings”.

The small icon in front of the Advanced Settings is for preview. You can click it to check if you choose the right title.

Step 4: Select the output directory

Click the “folder” icon you can save the converted DVD movie to your computer. And later you can transfer it to your iPad or other devices in your way.

If you click the drop-down list box before the “folder” icon, you will the “Mobile Device” option. “Mobile Device” means you want DVDFab to transfer the converted file to your mobile device. If you choose that, DVDFab will help you transfer the output file to your iPad or other devices by DVDFab File Transfer. DVDFab will give you detailed transfer instructions then.
Here we will choose the “Mobile Device” option.

Step 5: Start ripping the DVD to iPad Pro, iPhone X, HUAWEI Mate, etc.

Click the “Start” button, DVDFab will start to rip the DVD to iPad Pro. On the window, you can see the detailed progress info, and tell DVDFab to do what when the task is done: “Do nothing”, “Exit program”, “Hibernate”, “Shut Down”.

The conversion is complete. Please click the “OK” button.

Step 6: Transfer the converted video to your device

A new window pops out to tell you how to connect your device with DVDFab. DVDFab Remote needs to be installed on your device. Just scan the QR code to download and install the DVDFab Remote app on your iPad or other devices you are using.

Connect the Remote app with your DVDFab according to the instructions in the app.

Then the DVDFab File Transfer comes out. Click the “Transfer” button DVDFab will transfer the converted video to your device. We do not have an iPad Pro at hand, so we use a MI 6 as the device. The steps to transfer the video to an iPad Pro are same. After the transfer is complete, you can find the video at Photos (Gallery) of your device.

Advanced Settings

Usually if you already choose a device profile at the profile library, you do not have to change the settings on Advanced Settings panel, because DVDFab would make the parameters like resolution, codec and more fit your device well. But you can also customize your settings according to your needs.

There are many parameters about the video and audio. At the “Video” part, you can choose the codec, Frame rate, Resolution, Encoding Method and more. And at the “Audio” part, you can change the Codec, Sample Rate, Channels, Bit Rate and Volume. If you do not know much about these parameters, you can leave them alone. The default settings would satisfy your needs.

There is something you need to know at the “Subtitle” part. At this part, you can decide how the subtitles are displayed. If you choose “Direct render to video”, the subtitles will be burned into the image on the video pictures and cannot be turned on/off. If your option is “Remux into file”, the subtitles will be included in the video file and should be able to be turned on/off on a player. If you choose “Extract to idx/sub file”, the subtitles will be extracted into separate idx and sub files, which should be turned on/off also.

After choosing the mode you want, you can go back to the “Subtitle” part on the main interface to select the subtitles you want to keep.

Please do remember to click the “OK” button when all the settings are done.
